Let’s Avoid a Repeat

Take a stroll down Memory Lane with me, won’t you?

February 6th, 2010

The night the music died.

The Grizzlies were still on the verge of a playoff push.  Sitting a little below .500, and just a few games out of a very reachable 8th playoff spot, the Grizzlies matched up against the Minnesota Timberwolves.  I, along with two of the Grizzlife faithful, decided to make a little 30 hour road trip to see the game, obviously expecting a win.  We needed it.  After beating the Lakers, we had dropped 2 against the Cavs and the Rockets, and we were looking to get back on out feet against the Timberwolves.

Because they sucked. Badly.

The night started out well. We ran off to a big first-half lead; the Grizz fans (only us, plus 2 more) were raucous.  Then, the lead was gone. I don’t know what happened.  The Wolves were one of the worst teams in the NBA, and we blew an enormous lead.  The ride back to Nashville was miserable.  The pain alone was enough to make Robert almost fall asleep on the road just that side of Chicago.  From there, the Grizzlies’ season absolutely fell apart.  The typical puckered out season ending.

Well not this year.

The Grizzlies must win this game.  We are coming off the single best month in the last six Grizzyears (not to be confused with dog years).  We are right on the verge of the playoffs (and somehow the Royless Blazers keep winning). And, the Timerwolves suck. Again. Speaking of which, read the CA article about Randolph and the All-Star game.

I want to see Conely take over off  the dribble like he has been the last two games.  He isn’t the best shooter in the world, but he’s quick, and he needs to continue to take advantage of slower defenders to either get an easy basket or dish inside when help comes.

I still love Tony Allen giving us that spark.  His defense has been great as always, and his offensive game has been pretty solid of late.

Inside, it’s ZBo and Marc Gasol vs. Kevin Love and Darko Milicic.  We could have had Love and we had Darko at one point.  Sure Kevin Love is a great player, but I love the GaZBo way too much inside to regret either of those moves.  I think Gasol is going to have a great game.  Purely off intuition though.

All in all, lehgo.
