As the Grizzlies head to Memphis to play the Thunder in Game 3, one question stands out above all the others: which Grizzlies team, Game 1 or 2, will show up at the Grindhouse on Saturday?
Will it be the Game 1 Grizzlies, who beat the Thunder by 13 points behind dominating inside play from Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol? Will it be the Game 1 Grizzlies, who held the Thunder to just 44.9% shooting? Will it be the Game 1 Grizzlies, who turned the ball over just 8 times? Will it be the Game 1 Zach Randolph, who scored 34 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, and made shots with a higher degree of difficulty than a David Blaine magic trick? Will it be the Game 1 Marc Gasol, who was 9-11 from the field and scored 20 points?
Or will it be the Game 2 Grizzlies, who lost to the Thunder by 9 points behind poor offense, lackadaisical defense and 50 combined points from Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook? Will it be the Game 2 Grizzlies, who allowed the Thunder to shoot 53% from the field? Will it be the Game 2 Grizzlies, who turned the ball over 16 times? Will it be the Game 2 Zach Randolph, who was 2-13 from the field for 15 points? Will it be the Game 2 Marc Gasol, who was 3-9 from the field and scored just 13 points?
Here’s hoping that it’s the Game 1 Grizzlies that show up on Saturday. Last night’s Game 2 was hard to watch. The Grizz could never seem to cut the OKC lead to under 5 or 6 and the ineptitude of Randolph and Gasol was painful. Game 3 will be a huge contest for both teams. If the Grizzlies win, we will have one more at home and will regain much of the confidence lost after Game 2. If the Thunder win, you will be looking at a demoralized Grizzlies team.
Game 3 is crucial. The city needs to show up at the Grindhouse like it did in the San Antonio series. Wave your Growl Towels and scream loud.
Heart, grit, grind,
Owen
